I've received multiple requests to "set the mood" for this blog, so I shall do so.
Welcome to the Winthrop Ushelper's blog or WinthropTech. Whatever you would like to refer to it as, the general idea is to talk about whatever you want and not necessarily work related topics.
Chickpea
As you may have already heard I had to drop all of my classes except CRTW 201. And that sucks a lot, most of all the circumstances under which I had to drop all of my classes. It all started when I went to my Math 202 class the other day, which is Calculus II, and discovered once again that I have no idea what the professor is talking about. I decide mid-class that there is no way I can continue on and plan to drop this class and replace it with Will's Philosophy class. Problem is though when I go to drop it Wingspan won't let me because unbeknownst to me Linear Algebra (MATH 300) requires MATH202 as a co-requisite. Will informed me that in some cases students are able to get overrides from the professors allowing you to take their class without the co-requisite. Well I have Dr. Lee for Linear Algebra, who was the first teacher to fail me in calculus in 2005, so I went to Bancroft to plea my case.
NO EXCEPTIONS
Upon arrival I told Dr. Lee that I was not going to be able to take MATH202 but still would like to take MATH300. She then proceeded to tell me that the Math department has a policy of making no exceptions for co-requisites. The then cited precedence by stating that when students sign up for calculus I now that co-requisite of Trigonometry, and those petitioning to exclude that class were all being rejected. The department chair then walks in and reaffirms this policy. To try and bargain with them I then presented this scenario: If (intentionally) fail calculus II, while still passing MATH300, would i still get the credit for MATH300. Shocked, they could not give me an answer. I really did not want to do this as it is serious punishment for my GPA, but it did show my determination to get out of this class.
A Solution
Well after being rejected I then called my dad for advice. He advised I drop both classes and retake Calculus I. So I decided that that would be a good idea despite the fact that this would now be my 4th time taking this class. So I got on Wingspan, and saw that Calculus I conveniently fit into the same time slot as Calculus II, problem is that when I tried to sign up not only did it alert me that i did not have the prerequisite of Math 101, but also I needed this co-requisite of Trig. Let it not be forgotten that I HAVE passes this class before with a B. So I reluctantly try and sign up for the Trig class, only to find out that the only two available times conflict with my Chemistry class. Chemistry being just as important as my Calculus II requirement was not about to be dropped to take a class I had already passed. At this point I’m down to 10 hours of class, which brings me to part time status. Apparently for me this costs $462 an hour, which is almost nearly as much as the $5200 I pay a semester in the first place to just "play around" in perquisite hell. So now I'm just paying to take CRTW which is the whole reason I can't take any computer science classes or anything else in the college of business.
In Summation
I now truly believe that Winthrop University really is just an expensive book club for suckers who just need a piece of paper with their name on it to prove that they have the experience of being walked all over and are able to jump through any kind of bureaucratic hoop you put in front of them.
